We’ve made some changes to the ImpelHR web site to make it a bit easier to share interesting information with you.

When we made the recent improvements to our site we realised we had a bunch of things to post about on our blog. At first we were happy to maintain the blog page as a standard .NET web page that we just updated manually as part of the site. The novelty of that solution wore off pretty quickly though, and the bloggers among you will realise how much we were missing out on by publishing content this way, and how painful it is to redeploy a site just to keep a single ‘blog’ page up to date.

So, our second iteration involved pulling the content dynamically from a locally deployed SQLite database. This approach had the advantage of not needing a full-blown deployment just to push out a new blog post, but didn’t really address all of that missing functionality (comments, an RSS feed, web-based authoring, etc.). Cue stage 3.

Timed to coincide with the move of our main site, we decided to implement the version of our blog you’re reading now. This time we’ve opted for a self-hosted installation of the grand-daddy of blogging platforms, WordPress, and I must admit that it feels like we’re about done. We’ve learned heaps over the last couple of days getting this platform up and running, installing and customising the awesome K2 theme, getting Google Analytics integrated, sorting the pretty permalinks out on Windows, and bringing a bunch of our content over.

With this version of the blog we get everything you’d expect to get with a WordPress install, and hopes are high that we’ve just lowered the barrier to staying in touch with our users and readers.

We’d like to congratulate The Australian National University in Canberra for becoming the latest university to adopt Recruiter to manage its online recruitment processes.

ANU are now using the very latest version of Recruiter which includes a number of significant improvements over previous versions;

Significant performance, architectural and security improvements that combine to create a very stable platform

A complete rewrite in .NET gives your IT folk an application stack they’re familiar with

A internal jobs site that let’s you advertise new vacancies to current staff first

Support for decentralised HR functions (in addition to the existing support for centralised HR functions)

Numerous other smaller enhancements requested by the ANU and our other customers

The team at ImpelHR wishes you all the best and thanks you for your kind words;

ImpelHR is an intuitive, easy to use system that has streamlined our processes and enabled us to provide a more efficient and consistent recruitment service across the university.

Tailored to meet our specific needs, the system is a cost effective resource that allows us to anticipate workloads and is an excellent tool for management reporting. We are delighted by how well the system has been embraced by all users across the university and the efficiency gains we have been able to make.

The team at ImpelHR provide a very professional service. We particularly appreciate the time they took to understand our business needs, processes and structure. The level of support and technical assistance we have received has always been of a high level. They are very approachable, always willing to listen to our needs and constantly making positive improvements to the system which enable us to add value to our organisation.”

It was great working with Ron, Ros, Erica, Michelle and the rest of the team from ANU!

ImpelHR Recruiter was recently recognised as the winner of the prestigious national HRINZ Initiative of the Year Award for 2002.

Three senior experts selected by HRINZ were asked to assess all entrants on the basis of their:

Contribution to the overall strategic direction of an organisations objectives.

Demonstrated benefits to the bottom line of the business.

In their summary, they noted that ImpelHR offers a seamless integration of the total recruitment process, which includes form generation, online applications and applicant rating, as well as high ease of use. The use of ImpelHR has allowed the University to test the effectiveness of its recruitment advertising. Massey’s recruitment website, jobs.massey.ac.nz, is becoming the job site of choice in the Manawatu region.

The ImpelHR system has moved staff from dependency on HR to empowerment, and has enhanced accountability. At Massey University, the HR Section itself has moved from being process oriented to a professional oriented culture. The ImpelHR system has reduced the cost of recruitment from more than $4000 to $2500 per position, representing an annual saving in excess of $600,000.
